Public debate on the influence of aggression, shown on TV over children’s behaviour is to be held in Burgas. Representatives of the Council for Electronic Media, State Agency for Protection of Children, Parliamentary Culture Commission, public figures and media will be invited. This became clear today, November 6th during a round table with the participation of deputy mayor of Education and culture Yordanka Ananieva, representatives of the local Commission for Fight against Anti-social Behaviour of Juveniles, the Commission for Children, the Commission for Fight against Traffic of People, the Agency for Protection of Children, Police and media.
Organizing of such public debate aims at gathering opinions of media and other experts as well as public attitude toward the opportunity for legislative change, so that restriction on the time of showing films and shows with aggressive content be imposed for the sake of children and teenagers’ safety. Psychological and sociological researches both on international and local level have proved the correlation between watched aggression and its behavioral reproducing. Currently the Council for Electronic Media has completely shifted its responsibilities on parents. The role of the regulator is now reduced to only showing of warning signs such as “Forbidden under age of …… Parental control recommended.” However many parents do not observe these recommendations and sometimes they are even still at work, when films with aggressive content are shown. All participants in today’s round table were unanimous, that we shall not shut our eyes for this problem.
Organizing of a public debate will be the first step toward realization of change, willingness for which was clearly stated on today’s round table. The next step will be suggesting of particular ideas for legislative change based on the conclusions from the discussion.
