On January 13th, 2010 the statistics shows that during the last two years 697 parking places in the downtown and quarters of Burgas became available due to removal of parked out-of-use cars. The initiative started in 2008 at an order of mayor Dimitar Nikolov. Muincipal administration received significant support by local media and citizens, who alarmed about old and even decaying cars parked on the streets and parking lots in town.

By now 966 cases of out-of-use cars have been ascertained and records have been issued for all of them. 558 cars were moved by their owners. 139 orders for compulsory removal of vehicles were issued.

Municipality of Burgas has issued 157 statements and 96 penal ordinances. Penalties to the amount of BGN 17 813 have been collected.  

23 procedures were stopped, for their owners proved that their cars are still in use and with accurate documentation.
