A 6-year-old child from Burgas became the youngest gold medalist of the International Mathematical Olympiad in Thailand

6-year-old Lachezar Tomov from Burgas became the youngest gold medalist of the International Mathematics Olympiad, competing with over 1500 participants from 21 countries.


He is one of a total of 32 young mathematicians from 10 Bulgarian cities who presented our country worthily in Thailand and won 6 cups - 3 champion cups, 3 vice-champion cups and 32 medals - 22 golden, 7 silver and 3 bronze medals.

Lachezar Tomov goes to the "Hans Christian Andersen" preschool group, and this is the 10th prestigious mathematics award he has won so far. He was also among the distinguished Burgas children awarded by the mayor Dimitar Nikolov at the ceremony for Burgas' "Nikulden" holiday.

"I congratulate you on the excellent performance on the International Olympic Games in Thailand. Burgas is proud of your successes and medals. Mathematics has always been one of the most ambitious ambassadors of our country and our city to the world. Talent, love for studies and diligence such as yours make Bulgaria's name known far outside the border."said mayor Dimitar Nikolov.
