Mayor Dimitar Nikolov congratulates all lawyers and court employees in Burgas on the occasion of their professional holiday - April 16, Day of the Bulgarian Constitution. Here is what the mayor wishes to all people working in the field of law and jurisprudence:
"Dear lawyers and judicial staff,
Please accept my warmest congratulations on the occasion of your professional holiday - April 16, Day of the Bulgarian Constitution! 143 years ago in the city of Tarnovo, the Constituent Assembly voted and adopted the first basic law of Bulgaria - the Tarnovo Constitution. It reflects the tradition of Bulgarian intellectuals from the liberation struggles and the participation of lawyers and other Bulgarians at that time, who received their higher education in elite Western European universities.
Innovative and progressive for its time, it affirmed the principle of privacy and private property as the basis of public relations, freedom of the press, the right of association and free education.
It introduces the principles of the modern state and the separation of powers, and the universal suffrage enshrined in it, makes Bulgaria the fourth country in Europe, giving all its citizens the opportunity to vote.
Once again, happy holiday to all of you who have dedicated yourself to law! You have one of the most responsible roles in society - to keep justice, to enforce laws objectively and impartially.
I wish you to be healthy and wise, responsible and steadfast! Continue to uphold the rule of law and the basic universal democratic principles of our society.
