On St. Nicholas Day, Burgas will honor its great benefactor, Alexander Georgiev-Kodzhakafaliyata. On the festive day of December 6, at 9:15 AM, representatives of the Municipality of Burgas, institutions, and citizens will lay wreaths and flowers at the monument of this great philanthropist.
During the ceremony, students will perform a song and a poem dedicated to Alexander Georgiev-Kodzhakafaliyata.
The tradition of paying tribute to the memory and legacy of one of the most significant figures in Burgas’ history began in 2022. That year, the monument to the great benefactor, created by sculptor Radostin Damaskov, was officially unveiled.
Alexander Georgiev-Kodzhakafaliyata was born into a poor family and spent his childhood in poverty. Later in life, he engaged in trade and achieved financial success. Despite his wealth, he continued to live modestly and appreciated everything he had achieved through hard work.
Throughout his life, Kodzhakafaliyata provided financial assistance to the poor and orphans and contributed to the development of the city. Thanks to his support, many children were able to receive an education, which he funded.
In 1911, Kodzhakafaliyata made his will, donating a vast number of properties and funds to the people of Burgas and the city itself.
It is no coincidence that he was affectionately called the Father of Burgas during his lifetime.
